Métis-led · Story-based cultural arts

Our stories.
Our kin.
Carried forward.

Kith & Kin introduces NIKIWA — First Kith Reclamation: a travelling Métis arts initiative giving family legends and women’s stories a living place in clay, song and film.

Our founding promise

We give first.
Then we listen.

A living story project. Not a DNA project. Not a historical proof exercise. A place for the memories that families have carried, even when official records have not.

  • Family women guide the cultural direction. Their voices lead the work.
  • Sharing is voluntary. Permission comes before storage, publication or sale.
  • Stories stay connected to their tellers. Copies and control return to contributors.

One trail. Many ways to tell it.

Clay gives them faces.
Song gives them voices.

The Métis Trail of Promise explores women, kinship, bride wealth and promises kept or broken — without treating Métis traditions as one uniform practice.

THE GOOSE EGG

A vessel for living memory.

A developing oral-story archive for grandmother memories, family legends, songs, drawings and photographs. Consent and storyteller control shape every step.

CLAY HOST

Small figures. Expansive worlds.

Original clay characters, shape-shifting forest figures and stop-motion story prototypes, made with miniature environments and natural settings.

03 /

APALANI

Stories you can hear and feel.

Original death-folk songs, torch songs, poetry and spoken-word performance, carrying Métis women’s narratives into recordings and live work.

HOLY HAWK / AERIAL FILM TRAILS

Follow the land from above.

Planned landscape filming, visual story mapping and aviation collaboration. Aerial tests are research; a travelling airship remains a future possibility, not a current offering.

Carry the promise with us

Every family has a story worth hearing.

Storytellers, artists, cultural advisors and potential partners: there is room to help shape what comes next. We begin with listening, not collecting.

Find your way into the project

For storytellers: Start with a memory, a song or a place. Consider what you would like to share and what should remain private. You do not need documentary proof.

For creative collaborators: Consider how clay, sound, film or archival care could serve the family-led pilot.

For partners: The immediate priorities are grant development, cultural guidance, research equipment and support for community participation.

The initiative is in development. Public story submissions are not open here; permissions and participation arrangements must be established first.
